Local History Development Programme

The Victorians

The Local History Exhibition Development Programme is part of the Places for People Audience Development project at Haslemere Educational Museum. This has been made possible through a generous grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and is intended to make the museum accessible to a wider audience through focus on three strands:

• Pre-school and Carers Development Programme
• Nature & the Environment Partnership Programme
• Local History Exhibition Development Programme

This new programme offers something for everyone through a new programme of events, lectures, workshops, projects and resources.

Aims:

• Develop a local history exhibition to raise awareness of Haslemere´s fascinating past.
• Create an exciting programme of events and activities to learn about our local heritage and celebrate our local history.
• Create a closer connection with the local community to make history more accessible to everyone.

Programme:

• Lectures and talks on local places and people of historical interest.
• Greater promotion and use of the museum´s library and archive.
• An exhibition on the local history of Haslemere to be held at the end of the project, as well as smaller exhibitions on topics of local historical interest.
• An oral history project to record memories of the museum and Haslemere.
• Reminiscence sessions will eventually be available for local day care centres and residential homes.
• Workshops to explore local and family history.
