Biodiversity is Life
Biodiversity is the term given to the variety of life on Earth. We are all tightly linked to this huge variety of other animals and plants, the places they live and their surrounding environments, all over the world. We depend on the diversity of life for our food, fuel medicines and other essentials. Yet this rich diversity is being lost at an increasing pace because of human activity. As living systems become weakened so does their ability to withstand threats such as climate change.
In 2010, the International Year of Biodiversity, people worldwide are working to keep safe our irreplaceable natural wealth and reduce the loss of biodiversity.
Haslemere Museum has made a pledge to,- Raise awareness of biodiversity issues.
- Protect, enhance and record the variety of wildlife in the grounds of the Museum.
- Encourage our visitors, partners and staff to participate and pursue their own biodiversity-related activities.
- Running events, for all ages, featuring wildlife conservation and biodiversity.
- Taking practical measures to enhance wildlife in our grounds and monitoring progress.
- Setting up a Museum wildlife recording database and making our findings available to Museum and website visitors.
- Putting in place an Environmental Policy, which ensures that our impact on our own, and other, environments and habitats is as minimal as possible.
- Organising an exhibition on biodiversity.
