We look at every application sent to us and aim to acknowledge each individual application. Please note volunteering at Haslemere Museum is open to anyone aged 18 and over.

We are currently looking for volunteers to work in the following roles:

Administration:
The museum office co-ordinates a broad array of activities, including marketing, membership, fundraising, room bookings, web design and more.

Library / Archive:
The museum houses a reference library (open Tuesdays) and an archive containing historic books, documents, maps, photographs, postcards and negatives. Work involves answering public queries, organising material for researchers and documenting new acquisitions.

Exhibitions / Events:
The museum has a regular programme of exhibitions, using both our own collection and external exhibitors, as well as events such as lectures, workshops and community outreach.

Reception:
Our receptionists welcome and orientate all museum visitors, highlighting special events and activities that are available. They also answer phone calls from the public, take messages and record visitor numbers / enquiries.

Shop:
The museum shop offers a wide range of gifts for members of the public. The work involves helping / advising customers, assisting with stock display and making sales transactions on our till.

Education / Lifelong Learning:
Our collections provide inspiration for a range of educational workshops, lectures, events, talks and outreach activities. Education work takes place with all age groups, not just school children.

Collections:
The museum has a collection of approximately 400,000 artefacts related to the broad themes of geology, natural history and human history. Work in this area includes documentation, research and collections care.

Grounds Conservation:
Haslemere Museum's grounds are in need of some TLC. We need a work party to meet on a regular basis for activities such as Japanese Knotweed control, bramble bashing, dead hedging and other practical conservation tasks. The museum has tools, but volunteers may need to bring sturdy gloves in their own size. Some training will be provided. Jobs are varied, but will often involve bending and lifting, so applicants need to be fairly fit and active. Experience with hand tools is desirable.
